Complete this sentence:

“I don’t want to sound miserable or ungrateful, but … “

As another season rapidly approaches its end, do you sometimes feel like you’ve missed out on making the most of it? Not to deny that there’s good stuff, but what’s bugging you? As you look ahead, what aren’t you looking forward to?  What leaves you feeling edgy, cranky, or out of sorts?

Uncertainty, doubt, regret, and anxiety can all be insidious … little by little adding up to a lot of internal pressure (and often accompanied by a very long to-do list).

When feeling stressed out, have you ever responded in a way that you’re really glad wasn’t captured on video?

We all have our moments.

Whatever your response, even if not pretty, these emotions are worth paying close attention to. Emotions are our internal guidance system, a tremendous source of information … and something to absolutely pay special attention to.

Fear and anger (and any of the other less-than-pretty ‘freaking out’ emotions) can serve as a clear window into what’s NOT working in your life. Shining light on what you feel negative emotion about can be just the thing to give you the high-octane fuel you need to finally make a change and commit to what you really want.

By acknowledging what’s upsetting you, you can harness the powerful energy of anger/resentment/bitterness, and focus it instead on intentionally creating the changes you are wanting … in your relationships, your experiences, your body, your career, in any and all areas of your life.

It’s a law of the Universe that “what resists persists.”                                     And anger, frustration, panic and resentment are no exception.

By resisting them, they actually get bigger! Resistance is like pouring fuel on a fire. It grows and multiplies and “comes out”, sometimes in ways that are inappropriate and misdirected. The emotions bubble up or you “pop” and spill out all over, again, often in ways and in response to situations that don’t warrant your ‘freak out’.  It can be disproportionate, it can be confusing, it can be messy.  BUT – that doesn’t mean it’s not important.

Four questions to increase awareness about what’s REALLY going on:

  • Who are you when things don’t go your way?
  • How do you show up in the world when things aren’t going your way?
  • What does your disgruntled energy reveal about what you really want?
  • What’s an alternative to letting things fester to the point of freaking out?

Four questions support going from new awareness to peaceful action:

  • What do you need to delegate or let go of?
  • What’s REALLY bugging you?
  • Who can help? Who can you ask for support from?
  • What isn’t a priority? What’s still on your calendar or list of things to do that really isn’t a priority for you right now?

Keep Calm and Live Your Dreams

Stay with it.  Your emotions are a wise and powerful guide forward.

Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noice, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart. ~ Unknown
